Description

In the modern Voice Over market, having a professional home studio is integral for all voice actors. Years ago, you would be called into a professional studio to record or audition, but that is no longer the case. Ask any working professional and they will tell you that the majority of their auditions and even the majority of the gigs they book are recorded in their home studio. It is now an expectation that voice actors have invested in the equipment they need for their studio and are competent at using audio recording technology to capture, edit, and deliver broadcast quality audio files in a timely manner.

In this course, students will learn how to establish a working home studio, including understanding the basic signal chain from microphone to interface to final audio file.

This is also a great time to get answers to your home studio questions; basic hardware and software requirements, understanding simple acoustical concepts, and setting up equipment and software at home are fully explored in this class.

At the conclusion of this class, students will:

  •  Know the basic signal chain to get a voice successfully captured and into a final, edited audio file that you can send out to your clients upon request
  • Understand how the acoustic requirements of reduced external noise and reduced reflected sound impact the choice of location for a home studio; and what types of acoustic treatments are likely to be necessary in a home studio to produce quality recordings
  • Understand the basic differences between sound-proofing and acoustic treatment
  • Take away a shopping list of recommended equipment and software required to set up a home studio, at several different price levels. We work hard to keep things within your budget!
  • Understand how the hardware and software required for a basic home studio is connected and configured
  • Be able to troubleshoot common home recording problems

  2. I absolutely loved Home Studio 101. Art Bruder was very good and I learned so much. When I circle back around and get settled from moving, I will continue by voiceover journey and probably pick Art for my VO education.

  5. I appreciated the Home Studio 101 teleseminar tonight – lots of great information. I’m in the early stages of Phase II of my training with Edge…and loving it! Again, thanks for a great seminar. Just yesterday, I began setting up a large walk-in closet into a home studio. The only thing I’ve purchased is an MAudio MobilePre interface and Senheiser HD280 headphones, while using a borrowed Shure mic, Audacity, and a pop filter made from a coat hangar and my wife’s p***y hose. I’ve enjoyed entering the weekly contest at Edge recording in one of my small closets. I didn’t want to buy a mic or other equipment until I took your seminar, which helped a lot. I was a Navy broadcaster and have voiced a few spots at a local studio. I’m looking forward to recording a narration and commerical demo (at the least) with Edge while pursuing this dream I’ve had for years. Erik, thanks for helping me along the way.
