I’m trying to keep a certain flow with pauses while maintaining a tone of voice with little emotion. I’m not sure what other trials and errors I have to go through, but I would love to hear some input from you all!

Vern, Ditto on suecat’s comments. Move toward getting the recording much clearer and no back round noise. Edge can help with getting you going on a good recording atmosphere; also You Tube, eh?

Hey Vern,
It sounded as if you had a different tone for each performance – I hope that was your intent. The volume was very low so I could barely hear you. It sounded as if there was a consistent hum in the mic and your voice sounded a bit slurred. The noise factor skewed your performance. So I look forward to hearing more.

Hey, You have a very clear and smooth voice. I’ll agree with Bev, an increased tempo would make it sound more conversational. In the second performance, I could hear your deep inhale, I guess that’s not a big deal, since they can be deleted from the recording. As we’re instructed, choose the person you’re talking to and why you’re telling them this information, to create that believable conversation. Love your voice, keep posting.

Hello, It’s been about 2 years in the making for me…. I am officially open for business. I built my own vocal recording booth, acquired all the gear and have been tinkering with producing my own stuff to be able to put a demo together. I want to focus on narration and so my first demo is geared towards that. Would love to get some feedback on how it sounds.

It is entirely self produced, with the exception of one excerpt that I was hired for and i used clips of what they produced in the demo.

I use a Neumann TLM-103…and some Rode NT1 for microphones. Universal Audio Apollo Twin X interface running an Avalon 737 preamp plugin. Adobe Audition DAW and I post produce/process with the Izotope software suite, (Nectar, Neutron, and Ozone)

Hmmm, not sure if I’m knowledgeable (edge….) enough yet; I was struck by your voice and versatility; the production quality for sure, but, I am wondering if a client would not just be interested in your voice alone? For me the accompanying music was loud, distracting and over topped your voice.

I appreciate the comments…. I have been focusing a lot of my audio production skills on what is called “unmasking”…… it’s where you make equalization adjustments to your vocal track and your music track to get your voice to “lay in the mix”…… this allows you to still keep a nice loud music track that helps to evoke emotion….but the vocal track is still intelligible through it.

Thank you…. I appreciate it. Honestly I don’t. I got my editing and production skills a long time ago when I worked in radio. Basic editing, multitrackiing, processing. But I watched a lot of YouTube videos to get it up to the next level. The information is out there…. You just have to find it and practice.

The only advice that I have is that you use some sound dampening equipment that it doesn’t sound like your in an empty room. But on your first script it was beautiful I love every minute. First of all welcome!

I loved your take on this script – your voice is very colorful and had great emphasis on selected words throughout. It sounded like “the” was missing/smushed in “Located in the heart of Africa…”; that’s an easy fix. Also I did not hear a slight pause at the end of the sentence “…that has made a difference. Welcome…” and so the two sentences ran together. These small tweaks will make your performance sound a little clearer in my opinion. Good job and I hope that helps!

Hi Suecat, good job on these! I liked the tone and pace for Motel 6, and the rising tone / your interpretation at “…or maybe a hat.”, which sounded like “…or maybe a hat?” For the second script, I really liked how you built the 3 things that kids hear “no” to as if each one of them was worse than the one before, really made it sound like a convincing story! Keep up the good work!
