ParticipantGreat job getting into character! I was worried at first when I heard the voice because I thought it might not be clear; but each word was nice and clear. I really like that breathy quality to the voice initially. Maybe see if you can hold on to it all the way to the last words? Keep doing great things!

ParticipantLooking to make a realistic sounding ad spot for my Demo Reel. I’ve been told I have a young sounding voice so maybe college student products might be the way to go for me. Any feedback or constructive criticism is helpful and appreciated.

ParticipantVery nice! The casual, conversational feel and subtle humor shines through, and you’re right on track with branding in my opinion- college aged roles would suit your voice well. One note to keep in mind- it came in at around 36 seconds, so if you were submitting for a 30 second commercial you would have to pace it a bit quicker than on your current read. Great job overall though!

ParticipantOk, good recording quality, docr15. I’m glad there’s clear enunciation in your read and that there’s no background noises to distract the audience from your delivery. As a commercial read, it’s very good. I like the “up next” feeling you have in your delivery. As a critique, maybe emphasize more when you say “attack”, “break”, and ” the nation is under siege”, it may add to the audience’s anticipation of, “Oh my goodness, I need to know what happens next on “24”. It’s an opinion.
Great work

ParticipantHey Docr15 – On the Karibui coffee piece: I thought you did a nice job overall on the production. It sounded as though you had some pauses in unnatural places. It took me out of the read, and a bit of saliva noise. My coach mentioned that eating a piece of apple can help with this. I want to try that out myself. 🙂 Nice work! Keep it up.

ParticipantFor Docr15 – Cute! I like this read! I think there might be slightly too long of a pause between “what can ____ (pause) like a ____”. Maybe more of a micropause vs. a true pause would work better. Nice audio quality and nice job on this performance!

ParticipantGood job with the commercial read. You sounded ready to entertain the kids on tv, like the “up next on this show…” My only critique is when you ended the “up next on discovery kids”. I could hear your voice lose energy as you ended, saying “discovery kids”. Other than that good work.

ParticipantSounds great! Between “on’ and ‘discovery kids” might have been a little to long of a pause but that just my opinion

ParticipantFor recording purposes, mostly eliminating background noises, I am resubmitting my Wise Man character read for my demo.
Is this performance better?

ParticipantGreat voice characterization SuperLuke. You seemed to change character a bit over the course of the read. At first you sounded very strained, then you had an english, somewhat Winston Churchill sound then the last sentence lost all the gruffness and Churchill sound and it was just an english accent.

ParticipantThank you docr15 for your comment. Yes, me and my coach talked about “staying in character”. In the beginning I sort of sound like my young self. Then I was doing my best to sound like much time has passed and that I was older. When my voice sounds strained, I was following his advice by “constricting my throat” as I speak to have sound like an old textured, withered, and wise man. At the very end, I had to breathe and let go of my throat as I spoke.
All feedback is welcome! How was the recording quality? Any advice on how to sound older, staying in character, without constricting my throat too much as I perform?

ParticipantWise man and hope script; for character demo. My coach wants me to sound like a gruff, rough textured old wizard who wants to remind his friends about the strength of “hope”. I’m really trying to eliminate problems in my home studio. Feedback needed.
Lawless marauders spread pain and suffering as the sky burns. But we must never abandon Hope. We must look to the light in ourselves and each other. That light will become the dawn of a new civilization.

ParticipantSuperLuke – really liked the grit in your voice, and I was completely picturing the scene – dark and forboding in my mind. Very good!

ParticipantYou did a good job with this recording. Sounded like a real commercial. Although, I thought when you said “ESPN” and “ABC”, I thought you were forcing the words out while trying to make sure you enunciated everything correctly.

ParticipantI didn’t have as much of an issue with your “ESPN” OR “ABC,” I think it sounds great! My only suggestion would be one extra beat before “Home of . . . because the who’s presenting it flows great, but the “what?” oh, “Home of the Citi . . . ” etc., I just would have taken the quick extra beat and hit “Home” a little harder. But it’s very, very good as it is.

ParticipantWOW! That sounded really good! I think you did a good job in making the networks stand out. And your pacing was perfect for this type of work! Good luck with your Demo!
