Hello everyone, I am a university student who has been complimented on his voice several and motivated to join the voice over industry. So here I am shooting my shot, attaching a sample narration not polished in anyway recorded from my phone and uploaded here directly. Have a listen and let me know how do you feel and do i have any chance of sustaining myself in this industry. Thank you for taking out a small portion of your time and giving me honest feedback.

    Hello Edge Community!

I am in the Coaching Program here and have uploaded 2 pieces for creative feedback(no tech; not in professional studio yet) as a part of the learning process. The 1st piece is a “1st Person” commercial I wrote about a dish at a restaurant. The 2nd is a VO for a t-shirt company. As I am just starting out I am open to any thoughts/general notes, but specifically I’d like to know in the 1st piece if you believe my read to be authentically conversational? What changes could make it better?

And for the 2nd piece, same general notes/thoughts request, but also curious if you feel the character and tone match the piece? Did you get a feel for the product? Would you trust this voice? Why or why not?

Thank you so much for your contributions to this journey!

      Hey Holly!
EYELINER-I liked your read! My fav part was at the end when you said “if its not broke don’t fix it”. I feel like that part really came through as something you believe. My only note would be to pick up the pacing of the part before and speed up the pace. Way to go! 🙂

HIPPOS-It is cool! never knew that about Hippos! I liked how you played with high and low pitch for this one, it kept me engaged and wanting to keep learning more and I believed you knew what you were talking about. I feel like if you tried to record this again imagining someone(or having someone there) you are talking to/telling this too it would help naturally align the pacing and add an authentic edge to it. Nice work!

Hi folks could use some feedback. I’m in the Chicagoland region trying to get representation. Dream come true would be to do voice work for Disney. I’m either getting no replies or rejection letters. I know it’s common but it’s getting to the point I feel like something’s missing. Any help would be appreciated.

Also if I can have feedback on my web page I’d greatly appreciate that as well.

Great job on these takes Ibby! For Kim Crawford: Your voice sounds super warm and comforting. I also think you had some good variety in pitch which helped keep my attention. When you say “…or our time” it sounds like you’re pronouncing “our” as “are” if that makes sense. I know we often pronounce it as “are” in conversation, but I’ve been directed to try to say it more like “hour”.

For Zillow: I like the pacing of this one! When you say “fees” I heard you pitch up at the end and it almost made it sound like a question. Maybe try a take where you sound a little more certain in your tone about what you’re saying.
