Additional compensation for recordings, above and beyond the initial payment, usually due to the recording being used for longer periods of time and or in other media than the initial payment covered. For example, a client paid a voice actor $500 to record a local commercial that will air in one local market. But then the client decides to air the commercial longer and nationally. Now the voice actor receives additional (“residual”) payments. Most common are union commercials which, if a commercial continues airing after 13 weeks, the voice actor is paid again.
