More about your instructor:
James Romick graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Education degree from Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music in Youngstown, Ohio. His concentration was in Voice. Although he is a classically trained Opera singer, James had no ambitions of becoming the next leading baritone of the Metropolitan Opera. Instead, he opted for a career in the Musical Theatre. Throughout his early stage career, James performed in many Regional, Summer Stock, and Dinner Theatres up and down the I-95 corridor from Maine to Miami, as well as two seasons at the Indiana Repertory Theatre in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In 1990, James was cast as a swing in the Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera. Over the years he trod the boards of the Majestic Theatre, he was given the understudy duties and performed the roles of Raoul, Ms. Andre, Ms. Firmin, and The Phantom. James performed the role of The Phantom 379 times!
James became interested in pursuing voiceover in 2012 and took the Investigate Voice Over class at Edge Studio in New York City. With the encouragement of that instructor, James enrolled in Edge Studio’s training program and landed a voiceover agent within two months, three months before his commercial demo was even produced by Edge. James has also been a leading contributor to the Edge Studio Feedback Forum in both offering practice recordings for peer critique and critiquing others. James has won both First Place and Third Place for the Script Reading Contest. His voice can be heard on several commercial campaigns, as well as in video games.
Most recently, James has combined his vocal, acting and storytelling skills and found his voiceover niche as an audiobook narrator. James is also a leading contributor on many narrator-centric social media sites, as well as a conducting both virtual and live sessions for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation (EIF) Voiceover Lab on topics such as Home Studio Setup & Design, Microphones & Interfaces, Audiobook Recording & Mastering Techniques, and getting into audiobooks in general.
However, James gets the most satisfaction by tutoring fellow voice actors and audiobook narrators on how to set up and configure his favorite DAW specifically for voiceover recording and audiobook production: REAPER.
