Thanks much for the feedback M and BJ. A weird thing about that Alamo read – the script only says “Alamo” once, so it definitely should have been hit harder.

I’m probably a bit too conscious of diction, i.e the “T” in twenty. There’s a fine line between clear and over-annuncaiated, in listening now it sounds too harsh.

Thanks again for the great advice 🙂

Hey all – working toward a promo demo next month, and have two short reads from the script library…one going for the happy vacation voice, the other trying for a more “mysterious” tone. Would either get you to rent the car or watch the show?

Any and all feedback is welcome. Thanks in advance!

Hi Eric – Overall I think this is a good read, but gets a little “pause-y” in the middle. You do: “a level that best represents my voice (pause) at a normal speaking volume (pause) to a person standing next to you”. Personally I’d go straight through that, no micropauses. I often find that blowing through commas in a script makes it sound less choppy. Conversely adding the pause sounds hesitant and less conversational.

A good match for your sound though…friendly, enthusiastic and clear, all very applicable to instructional reads. Nice job !

He there. I definitely don’t think these are too fast. If that’s been a problem in the past, you’ve improved! Micropauses help bring you to more conversational speed, and I think that’s best shown in the A1 read. Also think A1 is the best read overall: most conversational and natural, and you keep up the energy through the last line. On special K and Atlanta Bread, the last line sorta trails off.

Not hearing any glottal stops, but I never really developed an ear for them in US English :-/ I hear them in British English all the time (they’re very obvious), but if you’ve had issues in the past I’d never know it.

    Nice reads all around!

Hey KBURMAN, thanks for the feedback.Actually that line was “shell of a house”, not “sellable house”. An enunciation failure on my end either way! Not surprisingly, I do have a tendency to slur in H’s and. S’s…you have good ears 🙂

Agree too that I could go bigger on “inside access”.

Thanks again, I’ll post more as I’m having a great time with these promo reads.

Hi – doing some coaching on promo reads and attaching the results of my first session.

We worked through NBC Sports App, but then I did Beachfront Bargain Hunt on my own.

Any and all comments welcome, from delivery technique to sound quality.

    Thanks!

Love this read – is it a booked job?

Currently doing some coaching in promo reads, and to me you NAIL this. Lots of energy but respects that fine line between ‘going big” and “over the top”.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Debbie – you have a warm, friendly but knowledgeable voice. I think this is a great read, sounds like e-learning might be a niche to focus your auditions.

Your diction/enunciation is super-precise, which I feel is appropriate for the read. Only the phrase “high cos-t” didn’t seem quite as pointed, but only in comparison to the rest of the script.

    Really well done!

Hi JALjr – Sounds to me like the Marines read was MADE for your voice. You have a true “all American” tone, like you really know what you’re talking about. I also hear that coming through in the Eiffel Tower read, though that sounds a bit more narrative (to my ear) than commercial.

I think News 7 is more promo and needs to go bigger. I’m hardly an expert (coaching on promo now), but these type of commercials often border on announcery. I’ll post a few promo reads I’m working on for feedback.

    Great work!

Hi – agreed, you have a very pleasant, relaxed voice…and you can hear that relaxation on the first line, then it gets fast. Almost like you want to finish it quickly.

Take a breath at the end of that first line, stay relaxed. Personally I’d pitch down the “dals” in “Sandals”. Sounds more conversational as, in natural speech, we tend pitch down at the end of phrases.

Keep at it, I think this can be a good read for your voice style!!
