Description

A successful voice actor once said that they spent 80% of their time getting work, and only 20% of their time actually in the booth recording and editing. The era of easily securing an agent and then sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring is past – every voice actor is now also a Chief Marketing Officer. From your home office, you now have to manage your social media, build your brand, reach out to prospective clients, and still find the time to audition and book work.

Now that the modern voice over market is a truly global industry, you CAN successfully run an international voice over career out of your home studio. But, the accessibility of starting a voice over career from how has made the industry very competitive. You need to be at the top of your game in all aspects of your career; not only with your vocal technique, but also with how you go out, find jobs, and pursue potential new clients.

In Marketing 101, the basic concepts behind establishing a personal voice over brand and securing work are explained. This class will help you develop a better understanding of the role demos play in your career, what you may want your websites to look like, and how to utilize social media and online casting platforms. Each student is given the knowledge to create a personal voice over marketing plan to eventually build out your client base and book more work.

At the conclusion of this class, students will:

  • Understand that securing voice over work is as important a part of their voice over career as improving performance skills
  • Be able to list and describe the different types of voice over work available, and various potential sources for each
  • Have considered and created the attributes of their voice over brand
  • Develop a list of tools required for their personal voice over marketing plan: demos, website, business cards and other collateral materials, social media, online casting sites, other tools
  • Created a personal marketing plan and budget using supplied worksheets

  3. Thank you, Joe, for such an information-packed webinar on Marketing. I am continuing to do practice recording and hope to be able to do a demo in the next few months. Thank you, also, for sort of laying out the order of the tasks. That was one of my questions and you answered it thoroughly. I will be looking out for some of your upcoming VO Intel videos and checking out some older ones too. Have a great rest of your week!

  4. The Marketing 101 seminar with Anne was fantastic! She had excellent insights and a very well prepared presentation. I took copious notes! Her “power point” presentation was fleshed out with full explanations and details. The only downside, which was absolutely not her fault, a couple participants asked “questions” that went on and on and on…Anne was so gracious! But it cut into her time and right when she was getting to the part I REALLY wanted to hear, her time was compressed. It was not her fault…two people with “questions” devoured an inordinate about of time. I just wish I could have had the depth of coverage on the last part of Anne’s presentation as we enjoyed at the first. She’s a gifted teacher! Too bad some people have no self-monitoring skills! 🙂
