Scratch Track (or Rough Track)

A temporary recording that is a “placeholder” for the final voice-over. Scratch tracks are often recorded by a non-professional voice actor, sometimes even without “broadcast quality” sound. Production facilities use scratch tracks to make it easier to assemble the rest of the project (video, music, graphics, sound effects,…) and then finalize the voice-over script. Then a professional voice actor records with real voice-over script with broadcast quality.
