Youth Mentoring Connectiom
When I first started as a mentor at Youth Mentoring Connection, I was nervous. How would I know if I was doing it right? How could I — a man who grew up in a safe, upper middle class neighborhood — make a difference to any of these middle school kids from South Central? But Tony and Hoolie said over and over, just by showing up I am doing more from them than anyone else has up until now.
I had no idea how right they were. As I met these kids, I found they had experienced more difficulties in their 12 years than I have in my 41.
